Had written about Orcas Island earlier and one of the activities we had over there was Whale
watching.
Even though we had booked on line, we were lucky to get the right type of boat, a small one, pretty fast and not very crowded.
En route, we did see a Puffin floating but it was not easy to
photograph the little bird from far.
The guides were good enough to tell us some facts about the whales, like the oldest among them (known as the Granny) is 104 years old.

There was a particular area where the whales frolic around
and the crew knew the exact spot where we could find them.
It takes some time to train the camera on them to get some shots.
There were many other boats in the vicinity, all waiting for a
chance to get a glimpse of our frolicking friends
And a few colourful sail boats too.
It was good to see that all the boats kept a respectable distance from the whales.

When the boat was at a slower speed, I went on the upper deck and got to see the man at the helm (always good to know who the driver is)

Everyone was generous in tipping them for their good service.
May be they read what was written in the boat, “you never want to tip the boat, but feel free to tip the guides”

I don't often see whales while sailing, but often bottle-nose dolphins will come right up to the boat and run along. Nice to see the sailboats flying spinnakers. Great photos.

What an amazing experience! Whale watching has been on my bucket list for some time. I hope I am lucky enough to have the experience of getting this close to them in person some day. You got some really wonderful snaps!
I've never thought about going whale watching but it looks like fun! I'm glad the boats kept a distance and let them do their thing.
What fun! I've only been whale watching once. We saw pilot whales, which are more like dolphins. It was a fine experience though.

We have dolphin rides in Goa and sometimes when we go to the beach close to our place, we sight some dolphins frolicking. It's a joy to watch them go up and down oblivious to the humans who are ogling at them with cameras and binocs.
Looks like you had a "whale" of time.

Whales are both fascinating and scary sea creatures, especially because of their huge size. I don't mind watching them in the movies but I wouldn't like to be on a boat at sea with them, even from a distance.

An interesting gathering of photos. Whales always appear to want to
entertain people.
I tried sailing for the first time this year. We rode down the intercoastal waterway from Maryland to North Carolina. We did not see whales but we had the opportunity to see dolphins, sharks, flying fish, and other sea creatures. Sailing is a blast and I am sure California and Mexico would be the next two places I would love to visit.
