Mumbai Race Course

It is sheer coincidence that I got to see two horse race within a span of three months. The first one was in October at the Pune Race Course.

Had been to Mumbai many times but this is the first time I have been to the Mahalaxmi Race Course. The Race was a part of the Christmas Fest held by the Indo German Chamber of Commerce.

Had a look at the VIP and the VVIP stands and I am sure that they are just as they were from the British era.

These doors with these special handles could be a later addition.

Some photographs of Queen Elizabeth on her 1961 visit were on display.

Was impressed by this security guard who came up to me and checked my I-card to see if I was really authorised to take pictures.

These judges had to climb up and be seated at the finishing line before the commencement of every race

A girl having a close look at the horses as they pass by

while this little guy is wondering what all the fuss was about

(he also gets a lot of footage at the end of the video)

You get to see a good cross section of the people from the city at the races

These young ladies wanted their group picture to be clicked with their mobile phones and later agreed to pose for my camera too.

I was impressed by the outside ambiance of this eating place which is connected to the race course.

I assume these are some regulars over here, but I liked the relaxed attitude that they had, meeting other like-minded people and discussing things in general.

It is also that time of the season where the young and the very young can display their choice of clothes.

Concluding with a shot of the place in the day time and how it looks at night.

If you are watching the video on YouTube, keep the settings on 720pHD for clarity.

  2. I've only been to a couple of local, very small race tracks but love watching the horses run. I really like those door handles. My sister-in-law rescues horses and they make me think of her.

  3. I've never been to a horse race. Sometimes I watch the Kentucky Derby on TV. I've never forgotten the excitement of Secretariat winning the Triple Crown.

    Love,

  7. First of all...thank you for not giving up on me and visiting my blog and hearing what i had to say. Feels really nice that u were there first and heard me...shared my angst. Cause sometimes we just need to be heard. :)
Now i really haven't been to the races ever...although i live very very close to one here in Delhi. The Delhi Racecourse it is called. So thank you for sharing the pics and telling us all about it. Yeah those pretty ladies am fascinated to see that crowd at the races too...glad that i see them in ur pics but my fav spot undoubtedly would be next either to a brilliant shining glossy horse or that eating place where the walls are all covered in green...looks amazingly beautiful. Wonder what that green cover is...ivy or something else...looks really great that place maybe just because of those live green walls...
It's a pleasure...as usual to visit ur blog. Story through pics. Great. :)
Grab this moment in wishing you and family a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year :) :) :)

  16. Never been to a race course... watching people seems better than watching the race though, the people pictured here are pretty interesting, especially the little boy.

  17. Muito interessante saber que aí, as corridas de cavalos são realizadas em autódromos. Aqui chamamos hipódromos!
    Grande abraço e Feliz 2015!

  18. I haven't been to a horse race since I was a very young girl.... still remember that though I could see when things were getting started or quiet, as soon as the excitement built and the crowd was roaring all those big tall people were up and jumping.
Have you read the book SEABISCUIT about the famous race horse? It is written by the same excellent author who wrote UNBROKEN.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
